Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world. Kiva’s mission is to connect people, through lending, for the sake of alleviating poverty.
In 2008, BPW Saskatoon invested $500 in the program. As of 2017, more than 150 microloans loans have been made using this money supporting women in 42 countries. Most of the businesses requesting loans through Kiva are groups with an average of 8 women. BPW’s portion of each loan is typically between $25 and $50.
In 2017 at our AGM, BPW Saskatoon members approved spending additional funds each year to help support the administration costs for this impressive program.
